Terbinafine

Terbinafine is an antifungal drug for oral and topical use.

  • Fungal infections of the skin, hair and nails, candidiasis of the skin and mucous membranes

What should I know before taking Terbinafine ?

Do not use this medication if you are allergic to Terbinafine or to any other medicines such as:
  • Allylamines
Do not take Terbinafine if any of the below conditions apply to you:
  • expressed hepatocellular and renal insufficiency
  • blood diseases
  • tumors
  • metabolic diseases
  • pathologies of limbs vessels
  • pregnancy, lactation
  • infancy (up to 2 years of age)
Before taking Terbinafine, tell your health care provider about any other medicines you take or if you have any of the following disorders:
  • elderly patients
  • liver / kidneys disorders
If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or breastfeed, you should take Terbinafine only under a strict control of your doctor. Terbinafine belongs to a pregnancy category B meaning that this medicine is not expected to harm the unborn baby. In small amount, Terbinafine passes into the breast milk, that is why it is recommended to stop breastfeeding while on the treatment. 


Side effects of Terbinafine ?

Terbinafine may cause the following side effects:
  • headache
  • gastrointestinal tract: loss of appetite, indigestion, nausea, mild abdominal pain, diarrhea, flatulence
  • mild skin reactions (rash, itching, rash)
  • musculoskeletal reactions (arthralgia, myalgia)
  • Terbinafine spray, cream or gel may rarely cause skin redness, itching or burning sensation

If you overdose Terbinafine, seek immediate medical attention. Overdose symptoms include: dizziness, stomach ache, nausea, vomiting, skin rash, frequent urination

Proguanil

What should I know before taking Proguanil
Do not use this medication if you are allergic to Proguanil or to any other medicines such as:
  • biguanides
Before taking Proguanil, tell your health care provider about any other medicines you take or if you have any of the following disorders:
  • renal and / or hepatic insufficiency

Side effects of Proguanil

Proguanil may cause the following side effects:
  • gastrointestinal tract: aphthous stomatitis, upset stomach
  • nephrotoxicity - irritation of the kidneys, hematuria

Nitrofurantoin

Nitrofurantoin is antibacterial medication that belongs to a group of antibiotics called nitrofurans. It is used to treat bacterial infections caused by susceptible microorganisms.

Nitrofurantoin is used to treat bacterial infection of the urinary system (pyelitis, pyelonephritis, cystitis,urethritis) caused by susceptible microorganisms
Prophylaxis of infections during urological interventions (cystoscopy, catheterization)  

Side effects of Nitrofurantoin

Nitrofurantoin may cause the following side effects:
  • Respiratory system: chest pain, cough, dyspnea, pulmonary infiltrates, eosinophilia, interstitial pneumonitis or fibrosis, bronchial asthma patients with a history of asthma.
  • Digestive system: dyspepsia, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, abdominal pain, diarrhea.
  • Central nervous system and peripheral nervous system: peripheral neuropathy, headache, nystagmus, dizziness, drowsiness.
  • Hemopoietic system: leukopenia, granulocytopenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, hemolytic anemia, megaloblastic anemia (these changes are reversible).
  • Allergic reactions: urticaria, Quincke's edema, itching, rash, anaphylactic shock.
  • Dermatological reactions: exfoliative dermatitis, erythema multiforme.
  • Other: fever, arthralgia, flu-like symptoms, superinfection of urinary tract caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Lincomycin

Generic Name (active ingredient): Lincomycin
Lincomycin is lincosamide antibiotic that us used to treat bacterial infections caused by susceptible to lincomycin microorganisms. 

Lincomycin is prescribed
  • Sepsis
  • Osteomyelitis and other infectious bone and joint damages
  • Septic endocarditis
  • Pneumonia
  • Lung abscess
  • Pleural empyema
  • Wound infections
  • Meningitis 
 Side effects of Lincomycin

Lincomycin may cause the following side effects:
  • Digestive system: nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, diarrhea, glossitis, stomatitis, transient increase in liver transaminases and bilirubin in the blood plasma, in high doses pseudomembranous colitis is possible.
  • Hemopoietic system: the reversible leukopenia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia.
  • Allergic reactions: urticaria, exfoliative dermatitis, Quincke's edema, anaphylactic shock.
  • Other:: candidiasis.
  • Local reactions: phlebitis at the injection site
  • During rapid i/v administration: lowering blood pressure, dizziness, weakness, relaxation of skeletal muscles.

Famciclovir

Generic Name (active ingredient): Famciclovir
Brand Name: Famvir

Famciclovir is antiviral medication that belongs to a group of nucleotides analogues. It is used to treat infections caused Herpes Simplex and Varicella zoster (shingles), including shingles with eye complications.

Famciclovir is prescribed
  • Infections caused by Herpes simplex (type I and II): primary infection, aggravation of chronic infection, suppressing the recurrent infection
  • Herpes simplex infections in patients with HIV
  • Infections caused by Varicella zoster (shingles), including postherpetic neuralgia
Famciclovir is not used to treat flu infections, or infections caused by fungi and viruses
